We are a 40 under 40 Award Winning architects set up in 1998 by Julian de Metz (a 3rd generation architect specialising in refurbishments of existing buildings), Paul Forbes (formerly project director at Richard Rogers Partnership), and Ben Knight (formerly project director at Lifschutz Davidson). We currently employ 10 architects with the space to grow to 20.
Our projects range in size from £200k up to £10m. We work across a range of sectors and our particular expertise is working within and around existing buildings, including many Listed Buildings. We do not limit ourselves to any particular client type, deriving our joy from the variety. We bring to each project an open, modest, and collaborative / inclusive attitude.
As such we have designed art galleries, mixed use schemes, media communities, all forms of residential architecture (dMFK won an RIBA Award in 2008 for consultation led new build residential social housing), and fitout projects including a range of work at Tate Modern.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO US?
We provide a project and site specific architecture of the highest quality and treat every scheme as a new challenge ensuring that our solution is completely appropriate to the question asked. Our goal is, through rigorous analysis of the social, environmental and economic drivers, consultation, collaboration and understanding, to make places and buildings that are appropriate to their function, that improve with age, are adaptable, and where people just want to be.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION AND COLLABORATION
We place great importance on enlightened consultation with client groups, consultants and end users driven by sound ideas. As a practice, we believe firm management of the design process and our meticulous listening and communication skills enable us to bring about understanding, trust, and enable others to take a stake in projects.
We pride ourselves in our disarming, and inclusive presentation skills. We are approachable, engaging and unpretentious (even if we say so ourselves). But to test this, you'll just have to meet us....
