Sardo Canale

Client: Sardo Restaurant
Location: Primrose Hill, London
Budget: ???400k
Area: 450sqm

A 130 cover Sardinian restaurant and bar in a new build canalside development in NW London. We created 4 relaxed dining areas with varying atmospheres. Our priority was to evoke a warm, familiar informality appropriate for a local restaurant without compromising architectural clarity. Aiming for an unfussy aesthetic we have contrasted weight and delicateness in our detailing.

A buried 19th Century canalside horse tunnel bisects the restaurant. Fissures in the massive concrete supports for the building above are inlaid with precious metal mosaics, jewels and amethysts. Archaeological rawness is balanced by the use of screen printed silk curtains. Patterns are based on a Sardinian Nuraghe (a prehistoric dwelling). Materials are unfilled white travertine, bush hammered concrete, unglazed porcelain, satin brass, rosewood.
