Tate Modern Education and Restaurant Tate Modern, London

Main Project Info

A semi public space used for orientating school parties prior to visiting the galleries, needed to be modified to separate a staff route from the schools area. We designed a system of bespoke mobile furniture which acts as a base for large display panels, improves circulation and provides storage.

The large scale storage units house bags, lunch boxes and art or education materials. By placing them strategically, intimate spaces are created for group workshops. Photographs by Nick Turpin based on the gallery themes have been printed on absorbent panels and applied to the front of the storage units. These visually dynamic pieces help the space acoustically. The rear wall of the space, a strong lilac, has been chosen to complement the existing floor which has been retained and the grey of the bespoke storage units.
